With a projected $1.8 trillion deficit for 2009, several trillions more in deficits projected over the next decade, and with both Medicare and Social Security entitlement spending about to ratchet up several notches over the next 15 years as Baby Boomers become eligible for both, we are rapidly running out of other people’s money. These deficits are simply not sustainable. They are either going to result in unprecedented new taxes and inflation, or they will bankrupt us.The ideas are good and sound, but I saw this at MetaFilter where the reaction was not so happy. While we clearly need health-care reform, the last thing our country needs is a massive new health-care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of dollars of new unfunded deficits and move us much closer to a government takeover of our health-care system. But Jeff, you aren't seeing the "Big Picture." Once we get free health care, then we can work on getting free food, because without food, it doesn't mean squat if we get free healthcare. And then once we get free food, we can work on getting free housing. And then once our base Maslow needs are being met for free, we can *finally* works towards Utopia that we've always wanted, you know, the flying cars and personal jet packs and what not.
Geeze, get with the program Jeff!
So, what you're saying is that if we get socialized medicine we get Starfleet?
Can I get a starship?
But only if we don't use nuclear, because, you know, that's baaaaaaad ...
That's why we'll shift to something clean, like matter/antimatter.
Damn you and your "rising tide lifts all boats" attitude! Life is supposed to suck, and we're supposed to live in a brutal dictatorship with the state telling us all what we're supposed to do at all time. Sheesh! Do I have to report you to the nearest Obama Retraining and Cultural Reorientation Center?
No, I decided to turn myself in and take part in a new program the Administration has started:
Cash for Conservatives (shh, don't tell them I'm Independent)
You turn in an old style Conservative and get a brand new shiny Progressive Conservative in name only.
